Coyote Joe's

Coyote Joe's nightclub is located at 49440 Ryan Rd, Shelby Twp, MI. If you love country this is the bar for you. Coyote Joe's is a modern country nightclub. When you walk in they have line dancing, country music playing, a bull to ride on and cowboy hats everywhere. The whole atmosphere of the bar is country, even down to the interior. Even though this is a country bar you do not have to dress up country. There is no dress code, you can wear anything you would like. Some people like to dress up in cowboy boots and hats but others do not care that much. Personally, I am one that does not care enough so I just go in jeans and a cute top. There is a two dollar cover but ladies get in free on Thursdays. Ladies also get dollar drinks till eleven. Thursday night is by far the most popular night. It is always packed but the bar is so big that you don't feel squished. The only problem with Thursday nights is the parking. It can be a little hard to find a spot but they do have valet parking. If the lot is full they have another parking area right down the road. A shuttle bus comes to pick you up so you do not have to walk, it is kind of a far distance. The bar is half inside and half outside, there are doors that open up that allow you to walk outside to the outdoor bar. There are three bar areas so it is always easy to get a drink.
The first bar area is when you walk in, it is the biggest. The second bar is to the right when you walk in. You will go through open doors to get to this bar. This is a pretty big bar as well. The third bar is outside, it is a smaller bar but the bartenders are pretty quick. They do have a lot of bartenders on staff so it's always easy getting a drink from one. On Friday nights they have a special, if you call ahead to book a party you and up to twenty friends will get free pizza, free well drinks, and free draft beers. This event runs from six to ten at night. The music they play is always country, you are able to request a country song if you would like. They have the music videos playing on a bunch of plasma TV's all around the bar. There is seating everywhere in this bar, all around it plus tables in a bunch of different areas. To be honest even if you are not a country fan this bar is still pretty cool. Remember I always suggest pre-gaming before you go anywhere because going out can get expensive!

Cass Bar and Grill

Cass bar is located in downtown Utica 45108 Cass Ave. It is covered on the outside with white lights. That runs up and down the whole bar. It is extremely easy to find because of how bright it is. There is parking all over downtown Utica, even some right next to Cass. When you walk up to the bar there is never a line to get in, nor do you have to pay. Walking in there is a cozy bar downstairs called hogs hollow. It is a place where you can just chill and talk while drinking a beer; it has a pub like feel to it. The windows open up all along the sides of the bar, like a garage. On cool summer nights they open it up to make it feel like you're outside. They do have a patio to sit at and enjoy the summer breeze while relaxing with friends. They also serve food all night long. The food here is really good. They have a unique menu featuring slow smoked meat entrees, specialty salads and delicious sandwich creations. They also have and extensive bottle beer selection and ten beers on tap.  The upstairs it a little different, it has a more modern industrial look to it. There is a DJ who will play anything you ask them to. The music is loud and the lighting is dim. They have a great dance floor, its spacious and right in front of the bar. The bar is always easy to get to and relatively cheap. The bartenders are very nice and will make you anything you want, if you're not sure they will even come up with something for you. The bar has many tables to sit at and can fit a ton of people upstairs. It doesn't look very big but it is long. They have a sitting area in the back part of the bar. If the music is to loud upfront I would suggest sitting back there. The windows open up all along the backside of the bar. You can sit and enjoy the bar scene while feeling a cool breeze. They have waiters so someone will come by to see if you need anything. They also have TV's set up downstairs and upstairs playing different channels on each one. This bar is a good place to go if you're going with a large group of friends, or even just a few. It is a fun atmosphere and reasonably priced. I think this bar has a ton of potential and is the best bar in downtown Utica. Go here and be the judge of it yourself....!

Tequila Blue/526 Main

Yes, another Royal Oak bar. There are a lot of good ones around the area that have a lot of potential. Tequila Blue and 526 Main are in the same building, Tequila Blue is upstairs and below that is 526 Main. This bar is located at 526 S. Main St. hence the name. The line usually looks pretty long but you're never waiting more then five minutes. There is a five dollar cover to get in but I honestly believe it is worth it, you're getting two bars in one. The dress code for this bar is pretty simple, no backward hats, baggy clothing, and no white tanks. Sounds a little stereotypical but I don't make the rules. For women they suggest wearing heels but it is not necessary by any means. When you walk in it is 526 Main, a dueling piano bar. This is a ton of fun; the piano players are humorous and will poke fun at you. They do take tips for requests and will play majority of what you ask. It is more old school songs but they do try to play recent ones as well. They also make up provocative songs to a song that was requested. It is a fun atmosphere and a nice place to go out to have a few drinks and talk. The drinks are not to pricey, depending on what you get. If you stick with beer all night you will not be spending a lot. When you get mixed drinks it becomes a little more on the expensive side. You will not have a hard time getting up to the bar. They make drinks fast and have a good amount of people working there. There are tables to sit at all around this bar; waiters come around the tables to see if you need any drinks. They also have TV's all around the bar playing different sports channels on each one.  Upstairs at Tequila Blue it a whole different atmosphere. It's like night and day. This bar has a large dance floor and a summer theme to it. The music is loud and mainly playing new popular hits. They do not have a DJ to request songs but the music is usually pretty good. They have TV's as well but they play the music video that goes along with the song that is playing. The lighting is dim to give off a perfect atmosphere for a club like feel. The bar area is very easy to get to and again they have a ton of bartenders that are working. It is a fully stocked bar and the prices are the same as 526 Main. Both bars are a good time and if you go with a group that has different personalities it's a perfect way to get the best of both worlds.

 Commune

Royal Oak is a city filled with many different types of bars. Walking down main street with crowds of people dressed up and ready to drink. Commune is one of the bars you want to stop in. It is located on 419 S. Main Street Royal Oak, MI. It is set up in the basement of a restaurant, I know I know......pretty classy. This bar is jam packed majority of the time, just like a lot of the bars in the downtown area. It is pretty small but has definite potential. The line is never a long wait. If there is a wait it is only five or ten minutes and you do not have to pay to get in. As you walk through the doors you have to walk down a flight of stairs into the crowded bar. The lighting is dim but it gives it that rustic basement like atmosphere. The dance floor is small but somehow fits a ton of people on it. If you don't like to dance there are booths to sit in along the sides. There are also tall tables with no chairs that people stand around and talk. They always have a DJ that you are able to request songs at. He/she mainly plays rap or popular new music but I'm sure if you asked he/she might play something else, depending on what type of song it is. The music is very loud in there so if you're going out to sit and talk I suggest you don't go to Commune. However, it is a fun bar to people watch. I think everyone believes they can not be seen because of the lighting or they just don't give a shit when their drunk.
Although I do enjoy this bar there are some down falls. When it is crowded it is extremely hard to get a drink, I defiantly suggest pre-gaming before you go. There are smaller bars on the side but they do not have a full bar selection. Not only is it sometimes so crowded to get a drink they also do not have many bartenders to make drinks. You really have to push your way through to get their attention. With the crowds of people in this atmosphere it does tend to get hot, make sure you wear light clothing in the summer. There is no dress code for this particular bar. Although, a lot of the other bars in Royal Oak do have a dress code. Keep this in mind in case you want to leave. This is the type of bar you can go to and get blackout and not be judged because majority of the people there are blackout as well. This is a place where you are able to meet a ton of people you might not remember, so have fun and get a safe ride home.
